It's September!

Before we know it, it will be October!  Who knew it would still be nearly 100 degrees this late in September?  Here are some date reminders coming up over the next couple of weeks:

-  September 27, Grandpals' Day
-  October 2, Fall Pictures
-  October 18, Parent Conference Day/No School

**Third grade state assessments will take place on April 6 and April 7.  It is a new test called ACAP that will be given to every 2nd-5th grader at Edgewood.**

Fun happenings from the past few weeks:

-  Mrs. Cutrell, one of our new counselors, came for a visit
-  Mrs. Ford, our new reading coach, came for a reading lesson
-  Finished maps and globes
-  Began building vehicles for our forces and interactions unit
-  Finished addition, subtraction, and rounding
-  Started the meaning of multiplication and strategies (starting memorization next week!)
-  Learned about heroes from 9/11
-  Started working on Grandpals' Day art project and several writing projects
-  Learned how to use the RACE strategy to answer questions in texts
-  Completed two close reads to enhance fluency and deeper comprehension skills
-  Started small group novels
-  Learned new phonics rules, such as the 1-1-1 rule and the soldier rule for spelling
-  Learned nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns

Phew!  That's a lot!
