Happy Friday!

Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope that you all had as much fun as I did these past couple of weeks!   We have done the following in class:

-  Math:  Finished Chapter 3 Math on the Meaning of Multiplication and began learning our 2's and 10's multiplication facts.  In class, students will play games and do other activities to build up their fact fluency.  Every week, we will have a timed quiz and a fact quiz until students have learned all of their facts.  Be on the lookout for quizzes in their Friday folders.

- Reading: We have begun working on plot and theme during small group time.  Each group has a focus book that we are using to learn those important reading skills.  Students are also working on a nocturnal animals independent project in class.

-  Writing:  Students have been preparing for their grandpals by doing a "When I'm 64" writing activity and "All About My Grandpals" project.

-  Science:  Our class is testing different variables on vehicle models to see how motion and design are related.  We will continue this for several weeks.

Happy Labor Day!

We made it to Labor Day already!  I can't believe that August is already over.  The class has already learned A LOT these past few weeks.  In math, they have learned how to round, add, and subtraction.  We are now working on the meaning behind multiplication, and in a few weeks, students will be learning their multiplication facts!

In reading, students have been learning about main idea and details and character traits with interactive reading notebooks.  They have also been working on an autobiography google slides project.  Students also completed their first essay about their pretend monster that went along with a fun character traits activity that we did in class.  We also enjoyed our first mystery reader - Elizabeth Lee, Pate's mom!  Plus, the students got to meet and read with their Kindergarten reading buddies.

We have finished our maps and globes unit, and the students are now super excited to start our science unit!  We will begin next week with Forces and Motion.  Thank you to Leah Smith and Julie Warren for your help in helping me sort materials for the unit!
